Featured Partner
The CDC NPIN Featured Partner resource offers HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STD, and TB prevention-focused organizations a platform to showcase their services, programs, and materials. Our goal is to highlight the work of CDC's prevention partners and encourage partners to connect with each other to share information and strategies. Organizations are nominated by CDC or their peers, or are self-nominated. Those selected are featured on the NPIN Web site for the month.
The National Training Center for Integrating
Hepatitis into HIV/STD Prevention Services (NTC) provides
training to frontline workers in community-based organizations (CBOs) and
clinics on viral hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, management, treatment, and
integration. NTC works to decrease the burden of viral hepatitis in at-risk
populations by advocating for and facilitating the integration of viral hepatitis,
HIV, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention and services into CBOs
and clinics through the provision of science-based, practice-focused training
targeting frontline workers employed in these organizations.
Viral Hepatitis, STDs, and HIV
are preventable diseases. Despite this, it is estimated that up to five million
people nationwide are chronically infected with hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C
virus (HCV), and many of them do not know it. Approximately 25–35 percent of
all the people living with AIDS are also co-infected with HCV, and chronic HCV
infection is now a leading cause of death among people with AIDS.
Because some prevention
strategies and populations affected by HIV, STDs, and viral hepatitis are
similar, public health officials and professional associations have advocated
for the integration of hepatitis prevention with existing HIV and STD
prevention programs and services. NTC’s primary goal is to contribute
substantially to achieving CDC’s Division of Viral Hepatitis Healthy People
2010 and beyond objectives to reduce rates of viral hepatitis in adults 19
years of age and older in the United States.
NTC
provides practice-focused distance learning opportunities to frontline workers
in CBOs and clinics on viral hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, management,
treatment, and integration. These webinars and other resources are available at
