How to Place an Order

NPIN offers hundreds of brochures, fact sheets, and posters at no cost. Ordering materials is a three-step process:

*Adding Items to your Cart
*Browsing Materials
*Viewing Materials Online
*Government Materials
*Putting Materials in Your Cart
*Understanding Cookies

*Viewing Your Cart

*Checking Out

Adding Items to Your Cart

Locate materials to add to your cart by browsing for them or by searching for them.

    Browsing Materials
You can browse NPIN Materials by topic or by format.

    • To see a list of all materials by format, click Format in the Browse by box on the left side of the Order NPIN Materials pages, and then click the desired format.
    • To see a list of all materials by topic, click Topic on the left side of the Order NPIN Materials pages, and then click the desired topic.

Each material listing will include the title, description, format in which the material is available, the topics covered by the material, the publication date, and the SKU number. If an electronic version of the document is available, the listing will also include a View Now link.

If the material listing also includes a More Like This link, you can click it to search the database for additional materials that cover the same topics. For example, clicking on More Like This next to the publication "Facts About HIV Prevention Community Planning" would search the database for publications that cover (at least) the topics Community Planning and Prevention. For example, it would display Handbook for HIV Prevention Community Planning (Community Planning, Prevention) and HIV Prevention Among Drug Users: A Resource Book for Community Planners and Program Managers (Community Planning, Prevention, Substance Abuse), among others.

    Viewing Materials Online
If an electronic version of the material is available, a View Now link will appear as part of the material's listing. The material may be a web page, an image, or a file in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Web pages and most images may be viewed in your browser. If it is a PDF file, you may need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader before viewing the file.

    Government Materials
Government publications are in the public domain and may be used and reprinted without permission; citation as to source, however, is appreciated.

Putting Materials in Your Shopping Cart
To add an item to your shopping cart, click the Add to Cart button next to the material's title. One copy of the item will be added to your cart, and the Add to Cart button will become a Remove from Cart button.

To order more than one copy of an item, add a single copy of the item to your cart, and then click View Cart.

    Understanding Cookies
A cookie is a file created by an Internet site to store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site. There are several types of cookies, and in your Web browser settings you can choose whether to allow some, none, or all of them to be saved on your computer.

The NPIN site creates a temporary cookie to remember what items you place in your shopping cart.

    • If you accept the temporary cookie (i.e., you either have your browser set to accept all cookies, or you accepted it individually), then you can put publications in your shopping cart, leave the Order NPIN Materials section, and return later to order them.
    • If you do not accept the NPIN cookie (i.e., you have your browser set to reject all cookies, or you reject it individually), then you will have to browse and select publications, put them in your cart, go directly to the View Cart and Check Out pages, and order the publications immediately. You cannot put items in your cart, go to other parts of the site, and return later.

Viewing Your Cart

The Shopping Cart page tells you how many items are in your shopping cart. From this page, you can change the quantities of materials, order the materials, return to the Order NPIN Materials section to browse and select more, or (if you accepted the NPIN cookie) even visit other sections of the site and return later to order.

To view your cart, click the View Cart button in the bar across the top of any Order NPIN Materials page.

To change the quantities of items in your shopping cart, click in the QTY cell and change the number, then click Update Cart. You may order up to 10 publications. Multiple copies of a single publication count toward this limit. Some publications have individual limits of less than 10; if you attempt to order more than the limit, the system will give you an error message stating that the quantity exceeds the maximum order number.

To remove an item from your shopping cart, change the quantity to 0 and click Update Cart or check the box in the Remove column and click Update Cart.

To continue browsing publications, click Continue Shopping. The main Order NPIN Materials page will appear. If you accepted the NPIN cookie , you may also visit other parts of the NPIN site and return to order later by clicking Order NPIN Materials, and then View Cart.

To order the publications, click Check Out.
