Empower Young Men!

About 1 in 4 (26%) of all new HIV infections in the United States is among youth ages 13 to 24 years, according to a new Vital Signs Report on HIV among youth. About 4 in 5 of these new infections occur in males, the majority (87%) of which occur among gay and bisexual young men.

Empowering young men to mobilize for the fight against HIV is one important part of the CDC’s response to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy to reduce HIV incidence among these youth. Community-based organizations, health departments, and other public health partners play a major role in delivering programs to empower young men.

Using Google Hangout, we convened six HIV prevention experts to present their ideas for meeting the diverse needs of young men and recruiting them into behavioral HIV prevention intervention programs.
