Trudeau Partners with Chinese Hospital on TB Research

Abstract
Researchers at Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake, New York, have partnered with scientists at the Third People’s Hospital in Shenzhen, China. The hospital treats tuberculosis (TB) patients and has a research institute that studies the disease. Andrea Cooper, one of the scientists at Trudeau, has been working on TB for 20 years, but she stated that most of the work has been in a model system, which is not immediately transferable to the human disease. The partnership would allow the support of people, funding, and the opportunity to determine whether what the scientists are seeing in their model system is relevant to the human system. There are not many TB patients in the United States, and the ideal location had to have state-of-the art research facilities. Much of the TB research that interests the Chinese scientists is similar to what is being studied at Trudeau, so both groups can learn from each other. Cooper will send a team member to begin working with the Chinese researchers, and the scientists from Shenzhen want to visit Trudeau to be trained in the lab.
