GANG (Grandmothers of Alberta for a New Generation), the Edmonton chapter of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, has launched a cookbook project whose proceeds will help care for AIDS orphans in Africa. GANG plans for the book to recognize how mothers and grandmothers nurture their families and friends with food. It will feature dozens of recipes, photos, and recollections contributed by GANG members and supporters. The group plans to have the book published by Dec. 1, in time for holiday giving. “These food memoirs celebrate the strong women in our lives, and salute those African grandmothers who inspire us with their courage and determination,” said Grace Hamilton, an organizer. Those who wish to contribute their own recipes, food preparation techniques, and food-related reminiscences for editorial consideration are asked to do so before Aug. 31.
