Jackson Schools Approve Abstinence-Plus Curriculum
Abstract
The Jackson School Board voted on June 26 to adopt an abstinence-plus approach for sex education classes. Jackson joined Hinds County and Clinton schools in choosing abstinence-plus; elsewhere in metro Jackson, Rankin County, Pearl, Canton and Madison school districts decided on abstinence-only instruction. Both curricula must be age-appropriate, and neither may demonstrate condom use or present abortion as a means of birth control. Students need their parents’ permission to take part; boys and girls will receive the lessons separately.
