ACT UP Members Detained at Obama Protest

Abstract
When President Obama visited Philadelphia this week, ACT UP members were on hand to urge him to step up his leadership on HIV/AIDS. At a parking garage a few blocks from the Franklin Institute’s Science Leadership Academy, where Obama was meeting with recent graduates, activists unfurled a banner reading, “Obama: Homes Not Graves for People with AIDS. Tax Wall Street; Treat the People.” It included a website - wecanendaids.org - that ACT UP chapters are using to publicize a July 24 demonstration during the International AIDS Conference in Washington. Two demonstrators were detained for more than two hours by Homeland Security officials but will not face changes, said ACT UP member Kaytee Riek.
