AIDS Vaccine Handbook: Global Perspectives
Description
| This monograph reports on key scientific, policy, social, ethical, and economic challenges and the ongoing research for a vaccine that would prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The report is in the form of 43 essays that discuss the following topics: the need to continue activist roles to fight to keep vaccine research in the forefront, the current situation in the field of HIV vaccine development, the science behind vaccine development and the difficulty of finding a vaccine for a disease that has many strains, the possibility of a partial vaccine, and clinical trials for testing candidate HIV vaccines. It examines specific groups such as women, sex workers, drug users, adolescents; how they are affected by HIV and the problems involved in using them in vaccine clinical trials; and the importance of global advocacy and community involvement. |
