HIV Co-infection Surveillance Strategies for Program Planning in the Central America Region under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

Grant Amount: Approximate Current Fiscal Year Funding: $700,000.00; Approximate Total Project Period Funding: $3,500,000.00.
The goals and objectives of the program in the Central America Region are: (1) One of the goals of this program in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Nicaragua is to build capacity of healthcare workers to implement TB infection control and prevention measures and to detect and deliver clinical services to HIV patients diagnosed with tuberculosis.
(2) The second goals of this program in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Nicaragua is to strengthen HIV/TB/fungal surveillance programs.
(3) The third goal of this program in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador is to enhance laboratory diagnostic capacity and establish laboratory-based surveillance for HIV co-infections.
The purpose of this FOA is to assist the Central America Region in strengthening HIV co-infection surveillance and control activities and in improving the availability, integration, and quality of clinical services to HIV patients with opportunistic infections living in the Central America Region. The data provided will be used for program planning and to design interventions to improve care and treatment of persons living with HIV.
